Requirement

The client is a leading global company with many formulations for the treatment of asthma. The client has an extensive clinical research program for the discovery of new drugs and formulations. It is extremely important that researchers follow the best practices for conducting clinical trials and research; follow ethical practice and meet the compliance criterion. Failure to meet with the above can potentially lead to huge losses, legal action against the company and damage to reputation.
   

Project Brief

The need was to teach the researchers the importance of:

  • Applying prior knowledge of medical research
  • Understanding the various phases in clinical trials
  • Conducting the clinical trials as per the defined procedures
  • Conducting trials ethically
  • Regulatory compliance
   

Technical

During the design phase, the business development, instructional design and project management teams brainstormed and laid down the blueprint of the project. The approach was to simulate the actual clinical trial environment - essentially, hypothetical scenarios that would simulate the actual procedures involved. The user is offered various decision points and each of them lead to a different result for the actions taken. This meant that the courseware has a complex multi-path, decision tree approach that helps the user check his knowledge, apply the knowledge to decide the best action forward and also understand the ramifications of the various actions. The biggest advantage of using such simulations is that the learners can afford to make mistakes and learn from them (remedial learning) in a risk - free environment. The end results of not following processes can cost thousands and millions of dollars in real world and the web based solution can help emphasize this in a virtual risk - free world.
   

Completion

The solution is a highly interactive, scenario heavy learning module that allows users to appreciate the nuances of clinical trial procedures. Elements like Know More, Notes and Links also allows the users to draw upon industry expertise.
